Hotaru Odagiri

Description
Hotaru Odagiri is a Japanese manga artist, illustrator, and doujinshi creator known for works in the boys' love and supernatural fantasy genres. Born on October 5, she is from and resides in Tokyo, with a blood type of O. Her professional debut came in November 1996 with the release of her first collected volume, Gini no Kaze Tooki Kizami (Silver Wind, Distant Time), through Tosuisha.

Odagiri's most prominent work is The Betrayal Knows My Name (Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru), a manga series she both wrote and illustrated. It began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten's shōjo manga magazine Monthly Asuka in October 2005 and concluded in June 2017, spanning 13 collected volumes. The series blends supernatural conflict with themes of reincarnation and features a cast of characters with empathic and mystical abilities. Its popularity led to a 24-episode anime television adaptation produced by J.C.Staff, which aired from April to September 2010. The story follows Yuki Sakurai, a high school student with the power to read others' emotions, who becomes entangled in an ancient battle between the Giou Clan and demonic forces known as Duras.

Prior to this success, Odagiri had established herself within the boys' love genre, often focusing on romantic and emotional connections between male characters. Her artistic style is noted for its slender, graceful character designs, and her narratives tend to prioritize atmosphere and emotional nuance. Among her earlier works are the one-shot volume Gini no Kaze Tooki Kizami (1996) and the series Minna Ai no Sei ne (All Because of Love), which was published in five volumes. She also collaborated with novelist Satosumi Takaguchi on Time Lag, a one-volume work, and provided illustrations for the Only the Ring Finger Knows (Sono Yubi Dake ga Shitteiru) novel series by Tomo Kannagi, in addition to creating cover art for its drama CD adaptations.

Her other notable manga titles include The Transparent Boy (Toumei Shounen), which began in 2024, and Yubikiri no You ni (A Vow in the Shape of a Ring). Throughout her career, Odagiri has contributed to various publications, such as the magazine Chara, and has also worked as an illustrator for light novels.
