Chikako Akimoto

Description
Chikako Akimoto is a veteran Japanese voice actress from Hokkaido, born on 17 December 1949. She is affiliated with the talent agency Ritrovo and has been active in the industry since the late 1960s. Akimoto received her training at the TV Talent Center.

Her career began with one of her earliest and most notable roles as the first voice actress for Hanako Hanazawa in the long-running anime Sazae-san in 1969. In 1977, she voiced the main character, Ichirō Tobase, in Ippatsu Kanta-kun. Throughout the following decades, she built a diverse filmography, taking on roles in a wide range of anime series. These include Kayo Takeo in Invincible Robo Trider G7, Lotte Lehmann in Trapp Family Story, Weigenthaler in The Two Lottes, Versch in My Patrasche, and Jessica in Turn A Gundam. In the early 2000s, she continued her work with roles such as Kishida in You're Under Arrest and a matron in Pita-Ten.

Akimoto provided the voice for Regina Bergman, the grandmother of the main character, in the 2001 series A Little Snow Fairy Sugar. She also voiced Chigusa Iinuma in the 2009 series Eden of the East and its subsequent film, Eden of the East: Paradise Lost. Her later work includes a role as Zeruel's mom in You're Being Summoned, Azazel. Beyond anime, her voice work extended to Japanese dubs of foreign television, such as providing the voice for Estelle Costanza in the Japanese version of Seinfeld.

While not defined by recurring collaborations with specific directors, her filmography shows a long association with the Gundam franchise, having roles in Turn A Gundam, its compilation films, and later in the Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin series. Information from fan databases also suggests frequent past collaboration with fellow voice actors such as泽木郁也 and川津泰彦.

In recognition of her long-standing and significant contributions to the voice acting profession, Akimoto was awarded the Merit Award at the 17th Seiyu Awards in 2023.
