Lennie Weinrib was an American actor and voice artist whose prolific career spanned several decades, making him a familiar presence in American animation during the 1970s and 1980s. His work included significant contributions to the English-language adaptations of Japanese anime series for the American market. He was born on April 29, 1935, in the Bronx, New York, and began his entertainment career working with bandleader Spike Jones and in theater productions before transitioning to television and voice work.
Weinrib is perhaps best known to anime fans for his multiple roles in the Voltron franchise. In the series Voltron: Defender of the Universe, he provided the voice for Hunk Garrett, the pilot of the Yellow Lion and the team's chief mechanic. He also voiced the series' primary antagonist, Prince Lotor, the power-hungry and manipulative ruler of the Planet Doom. His association with the franchise extended to the 1986 feature film Voltron: Fleet of Doom, where he reprised these roles as Hunk and Prince Lotor, and also voiced the characters Cliff and Rocky. His work in anime adaptations was not limited to Voltron; he also provided voices for the series Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs.
