Jack Angel was an American voice actor and radio personality with a career spanning over six decades, known for his extensive work in animation from the 1970s through the 2010s. Before transitioning to voice acting full-time, Angel built a successful career as a disc jockey for prominent Los Angeles radio stations including KMPC and KFI. His entry into voiceover work began in the mid-1970s when a demo tape found its way to agent Gary Owens, leading to his first roles in series such as Super Friends.
Angel became a prolific presence in animated television, particularly in series produced for Saturday morning television. He is well-regarded for his many roles in the Transformers franchise, where he voiced characters including Astrotrain, Ramjet, Omega Supreme, and Ultra Magnus across the television series and the 1986 feature film The Transformers: The Movie. He also contributed voices to G.I. Joe, Darkwing Duck, and provided the voice of Nick Fury in the 1990s Spider-Man animated series. In the Voltron franchise, Angel voiced the villainous King Zarkon and Commander Cossack, notably in the television series Voltron: Defender of the Universe and the 1986 television special Voltron: Fleet of Doom.
His voice can also be heard in numerous major animated films. He was part of the voice cast for Disney and Pixar productions such as Toy Story 3, where he voiced the plush toy Chunk, as well as A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc., and Finding Nemo. Other film credits include Balto, The Iron Giant, and the English-language dub of the Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away. Throughout his career, Angel frequently worked alongside other renowned voice actors including Frank Welker, Peter Cullen, and Chris Latta.
