Jonathan Clements is a British author, scriptwriter, and academic known for his extensive work related to East Asian history and Japanese animation. Born on 9 July 1971, he has built a career that spans writing, broadcasting, and voice acting in the anime industry.

Clements began his involvement with anime as a translator, creating English scripts for numerous titles. Over his career, he has worked as a translator, voice actor, or dubbing director on more than seventy anime productions. Among the titles he has been involved with in these roles are Grey: Digital Target, Plastic Little, and Sol Bianca. A specific example of his voice acting work is the role of The Professor in the anime film Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai.

In addition to his practical work in the industry, Clements has contributed to anime journalism. He served as the editor of Manga Max magazine from 1998 to 2000 and was a contributing editor for Newtype USA. He is also a co-author, with Helen McCarthy, of The Anime Encyclopedia, a standard reference work on the subject, which has been published in multiple updated editions. His scholarly work on the medium includes the book Anime: A History, which was published by the British Film Institute and received academic recognition.
