Yoshiichi Akahito
Description
Yoshiichi Akahito is a Japanese manga artist, known as the original creator behind the Corpse Princess (Shikabane Hime) series, which was adapted into the anime titles Corpse Princess: Aka and Corpse Princess: Kuro. Hailing from Numazu City in Shizuoka Prefecture, Akahito began his professional career after receiving an honorable mention in the second Square Enix Manga Award in June 2003 for a work titled Mystic Connection. He made his official debut later that same year when Mystic Connection was published in the winter issue of Gangan Powered.
Akahito is best recognized for his flagship series, Corpse Princess, which he wrote and illustrated. The manga began serialization in Square Enix's Monthly Shōnen Gangan magazine in April 2005 and concluded in September 2014, spanning a total of 23 collected volumes. The story, which follows an undead girl hunting 108 corpses to earn her place in heaven, became the foundation for the anime adaptations. The first anime season, Corpse Princess: Aka, aired from October to December 2008, and the second season, Corpse Princess: Kuro, followed from January to March 2009, with both series produced by the animation studios Feel and Gainax.
Following the conclusion of Corpse Princess, Akahito continued to create manga. His subsequent serialized works include Reisei no Fantazuma, which ran in Monthly Shōnen Gangan from 2015 to 2017, and more recent titles such as Cheat Eater Isekai Shōkan Tsukujin Subeshi and Shinri Kyōshin Taisen Vampire Mist, the latter beginning serialization in 2022. His artistic identity is noted by readers for a stylistic tendency to avoid depicting character panties, regardless of the characters' movements. Akahito maintains a personal blog and a presence on Twitter.
