Hideki Kamiya
Description
Hideki Kamiya was born in Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, in 1970. He began his career as a game designer at Capcom in 1994, where he worked as a director on several influential titles including Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, and Okami. After leaving Capcom and its subsidiary Clover Studio, he co-founded PlatinumGames, where he served as director and executive director on titles such as Bayonetta, The Wonderful 101, and Sol Cresta. In October 2024, he became studio head and chief game designer at CLOVERS Inc., where he is directing a sequel to Okami.
Kamiya’s role as an original creator extends into anime and manga adaptations of his video game works. For the 2007 anime television series Devil May Cry: The Animated Series, he is credited as the original creator, as the series is based on the 2001 video game he directed. For the 2008 computer-animated film Resident Evil: Degeneration, Kamiya is credited, alongside Noboru Sugimura, for the characters from Resident Evil 2, the 1998 video game he directed, which served as the basis for the film’s story and characters. Kamiya also receives credit as the original creator for the 2025 original net animation series Devil May Cry.
