Shōya Kimata
Description
Shōya Kimata is a Japanese voice actor and a member of the global boy group JO1. Born on April 5, 2000, in Aichi Prefecture, he began his entertainment career by participating in the audition program Produce 101 Japan in 2019, which led to his debut as a member of JO1 in 2020. His entry into voice acting came in 2022, a field he had long aspired to work in.
Kimata's debut as a voice actor was in the television anime Fanfare of Adolescence, an original series about students at a horse racing school aiming to become jockeys. In this series, he voiced the role of Kōsei Nambara, a character who is a member of an idol group. This marked his first experience with voice recording for animation.
He has since expanded his portfolio to include voice work for animated films. In 2024, he voiced the character King Bocchi in the film Eiga Shimajirō Miracle-jima no Nanairo Carnation. King Bocchi is described as a kind-hearted robot who is skilled at dancing, and Kimata also performed the character's insert song, Roborobo Dance, for the movie's soundtrack. Later that same year, he took on a significant role in the anime film Trapezium, playing the part of Shinji Kudo, a camera-loving high school student who supports the protagonist's dream of becoming an idol. Kimata has described his involvement in this film as a major turning point in his life, noting the challenges of recording in isolation and his aspiration to one day perform in works akin to those of Studio Ghibli. His other voice acting credits from this period include a role in the television series Run for Money: The Great Mission as the character Scientist Dupont.
Beyond performing, Kimata has also been involved in music production, contributing lyrics to numerous JO1 songs and composing and writing lyrics for his own solo tracks, such as easy life and Heart Shot.
