Minami Mizuno

Description
Minami Mizuno is a Japanese manga artist born on July 30 in Sapporo, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan. She made her professional debut as a mangaka in 2006 with the one-shot Tama ni wa Konna Watashi to Anata (We Get Like This Sometimes, You and I). Early in her career, Mizuno worked as the artist for Atashinchi no Danshi in 2009, based on a screenplay by Shougo Mutou. Her early works, up to and including Rasen no Vamp, were drawn entirely by hand using traditional methods, after which she transitioned to a hybrid process where the initial inking is done by hand and the finishing touches are completed digitally.

Mizuno is best known as the creator of Rainbow Days (Nijiiro Days), a manga series she wrote and illustrated. The series was serialized in Shueisha's shoujo manga magazine Bessatsu Margaret from December 2011 to March 2017, and its chapters were compiled into sixteen tankobon volumes. The story follows a group of four male high school friends and their romantic entanglements, a premise that was noted as an unusual and successful choice for the shoujo magazine. An anime television adaptation of Rainbow Days, consisting of twenty-four episodes, was produced by Production Reed and aired in Japan from January to June 2016. The series has been released in English by Viz Media under its Shojo Beat imprint, with the first volume published in 2022. Rainbow Days was nominated for the 40th Kodansha Manga Award in 2016.

Following the success of Rainbow Days, Mizuno created another notable series, We Don't Know Love Yet, which was nominated for the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award in 2020. Her body of work also includes titles such as Seishun Trickers and Shinbun-bu no Komatsu-san. Mizuno continues to be associated with Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine, where much of her work has been published. Her consistent focus on narratives centered on male protagonists has become a recognizable characteristic of her artistic identity within the shoujo genre.
