Hiromu

Description
Hiromu is a Japanese light novel author best known as the creator of the romantic comedy series Chitose Is in the Ramune Bottle. Hiromu is a male writer originally from Fukui Prefecture in Japan. His professional debut came with Chitose Is in the Ramune Bottle, a work that first gained recognition when it won the Award for Excellence in the 13th Shogakukan Light Novel Award. The series was subsequently published by Shogakukan under its Gagaga Bunko imprint, with the first volume released in June 2019. The novels feature illustrations by the artist raemz.

The Chitose Is in the Ramune Bottle series represents Hiromu’s central creative work. The story centers on Saku Chitose, a popular and charismatic high school student navigating friendships and personal growth, offering a perspective from within a school’s social elite. The series has expanded into a multimedia franchise, with a manga adaptation illustrated by Bobcat beginning serialization in Square Enix’s Manga Up! service in April 2020. A television anime adaptation is scheduled to premiere in 2025, with Hiromu involved as a co-scriptwriter for the series alongside Naruhisa Arakawa. The anime is being produced by the studio feel.

Hiromu’s artistic identity is closely tied to themes of youth and authenticity, often exploring the lives of popular, socially adept characters. His work is noted for its focus on the experiences of the so-called riajuu, or normie, social group, providing a counterpoint to light novel protagonists who are often portrayed as outsiders. The author’s connection to his hometown of Fukui is reflected in the setting of Chitose Is in the Ramune Bottle, which takes place in the prefecture and has even been the subject of a local tourism campaign.

Within the light novel industry, Hiromu has achieved significant recognition for his debut series. Chitose Is in the Ramune Bottle consecutively ranked first in the bunkobon category of the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! guidebook in 2021 and 2022, a notable accomplishment that solidified its status as a major work of the genre.
