Shizuka Furuya

Description
Shizuka Furuya is a Japanese voice actress born on December 26, 1988, in Akita City, Akita Prefecture. Before entering the voice acting industry, she worked as a full-time employee at a pharmacy in her hometown. Seeking a more fulfilling career, she pursued a voice acting audition she found in a magazine and subsequently enrolled in the Production Ace Acting Institute.

Furuya made her voice acting debut in 2011 with her first and most iconic leading role as the robot girl Nano Shinonome in the Kyoto Animation series Nichijou - My Ordinary Life. That same year, she also began voicing Uruchi Mizuyase in the Maken-Ki! series, a role she would reprise in its 2014 second season. Her other notable anime roles from this early period include Agu (AUGA1) in Upotte!! and Arita Matsuko in Another, both from 2012. She also provided the voice for a girl in a 2012 Kyoto Animation commercial. Her voice work extended to video games, with early roles such as Sakurano Himeka in Princess Production in 2011.

Furuya was initially a trainee member of Production Ace before becoming a full member in March 2013. She left the agency in October 2014 to work as a freelancer. In late 2015, she was involved in a severe traffic accident, being hit by a truck and sustaining serious injuries, including a skull fracture and temporary paralysis. This incident led to a period of hospitalization and, subsequently, a hiatus from voice acting activities after April 2016. During this time, she lived in South Korea on a working holiday and held various jobs outside the entertainment industry.

In August 2020, Furuya announced her return to the voice acting industry under the agency AxiS Management. Concurrent with her comeback, she launched a personal YouTube channel where she openly discusses her experiences, including her accident and recovery. Her first role after returning was as the character Eddie in the social game Princess Connect! Re:Dive. She has since continued to work primarily in video games, with roles such as Teofano in Destiny Child and Cream Puff Cookie in Cookie Run: Kingdom. She has also expanded into other areas, including providing the Japanese dub voice for Alice Mondrich in the drama series Bridgerton and participating in stage readings. Her return to television animation was with a small role as a shipboard announcer in the 2021 series The Detective Is Already Dead.

Throughout her career, Furuya has maintained working relationships with several fellow voice actors. Frequent collaborators include Minoru Shiraishi, Mariko Honda, and Kaori Sadohara, all of whom have appeared as guests on her YouTube channel. Her discography includes character songs from her anime roles, such as Nano no Neji Mawashi Rhapsody for her character in Nichijou. A photobook documenting her return, titled re:START, was published in January 2021.
