Description
TOBI is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator from Tokyo, born on March 27. The creator began professional commercial activities as an illustrator in 2005 while also engaging in dōjin (self-published) creative work through the personal circle Orange Space. TOBI made a debut as a manga artist with the one-shot MAID DE KNIGHT!―メイドでないと!―, which was published in the June 2006 issue of Monthly Young Blood.
The first serialized work was the omnibus-style manga Megane na Kanojo, which ran on the web comic magazine FlexComix Blood from June 22, 2007, to January 29, 2008. The series was later compiled into a single tankōbon volume released on March 12, 2008, by Flex Comix. Following the positive reception of the manga, a four-episode original video animation adaptation was produced by the studio AIC and released on November 25, 2010. The OVA was directed and scripted by Koji Ito.
Following the debut work, the creator has contributed several other serialized titles. These include MAID DE KNIGHT+!―メイドでないとプラス!― in FlexComix Blood (2008), Meikousai! in Manga Time Kirara Forward (2009-2010), Okujou Hime which began in FlexComix Blood before moving to COMIC Meteor (2010-2013), and Omaera Zenin Mendokusai! in COMIC Meteor (2014-2020). Several of these works have been collected into multiple volumes, with Omaera Zenin Mendokusai! spanning ten volumes.
The artistic identity is characterized by a focus on youth and romantic comedy genres, often exploring interpersonal dynamics within school settings. Recurring elements in the work include the use of specific motifs, such as the exploration of glasses-wearing characters as a central theme in Megane na Kanojo, which examines different facets of identity and perception related to the accessory. The creator has maintained a consistent presence within the Flex Comix publishing group and its associated platforms.
