Yoshitaka Ushiki

Description
Yoshitaka Ushiki is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator born on May 26, 1980, in Joetsu, Niigata Prefecture. Before establishing himself in commercial manga, he was active in the doujinshi (self-published) scene under the circle name One Night Stand, where he gained recognition for his series of fan works based on the Touhou Project, particularly the Advent Cirno series.

Ushiki is best known as the original creator of the manga series Dream Eater Merry (Yumekui Merry), which was serialized in Houbunsha's seinen manga magazine Manga Time Kirara Forward. The series began publication on March 24, 2008, and concluded on November 24, 2020, spanning a total of 24 compiled volumes. The story follows Yumeji Fujiwara, a high school student with the ability to see the auras of people's dreams, and Merry Nightmare, a dream demon searching for a way to return to her own world. The series combines action and fantasy elements within a supernatural adventure framework.

The success of the manga led to a 13-episode anime television adaptation produced by the studio J.C.Staff. The anime aired from January to April 2011, with Ushiki himself credited for the original work and also for providing the series composition and script. Additionally, he is listed in the anime's production for design assistance.

Beyond Dream Eater Merry, Ushiki has created other manga series, including Kujibiki Sisters, based on an original story by清水文化, and Kaze no Jin, both of which were also published in Manga Time Kirara Forward. His work as an illustrator extends to contributing end card illustrations for several anime productions, such as Hidamari Sketch, Rozen Maiden (2013), Gochuumon wa Usagi Desuka? (Is the Order a Rabbit?), and Anne Happy. He has also contributed illustrations to manga anthologies for popular series like K-On! and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
