Yoji Ikuta
Description
Yoji Ikuta is a Japanese voice actor and musician, officially affiliated with the talent agency Holy Peak for his voice work and with the record label SACRA MUSIC as a member of the rock band PENGUIN RESEARCH. He was born on January 30 in Kochi Prefecture, Japan. His interest in voice acting grew from a childhood love of anime and games.
Before pursuing a career in entertainment, Ikuta worked as a childcare worker. However, his passion for music led him to move to Tokyo in 2014 to focus on it professionally. Shortly after arriving, he met composer Horie Shota and became the vocalist for the newly formed rock band PENGUIN RESEARCH. Around the same time, he secured his first voice acting role in the game "Let's Make a Band!" and sought guidance on acting from seasoned voice actor Asanuma Shintaro.
Ikuta's career as a voice actor began in 2015 with minor roles in the anime "Cardfight Vanguard G". He gained experience with supporting characters in several 2016 anime, including "Amanchu!", "Magi: Adventure of Sinbad", and "ReLIFE". He also voiced the character Kaoru Gomi in the 2016 web anime remake of "Whistle!".
His first regular anime role was as Candy in the 2018 series "Zoids Wild". He has since taken on more prominent roles, most notably as Torahiko Kusakabe in the 2021 anime adaptation of the idol multimedia project "I★CHU". In 2023, he played the role of Kō Hyūga in the original TV anime "Kawagoe Boys Sing". His other voice work includes a recurring role in the game and drama CD series "Band Yarouze!" as Yamato Shinonome and appearances in games such as "Metal Max Xeno" and "Demon Gaze 2".
A significant aspect of Ikuta's career is his dual identity as a performer. As the vocalist of PENGUIN RESEARCH, he has performed several theme songs for anime series, including "Button" for "ReLIFE" and "Wild Blue" for "Zoids Wild". His musical work is often closely tied to his voice acting, as he performs character songs for many of the roles he plays, such as in the "I★CHU" franchise and "Band Yarouze!". He also participated in the opening theme song for the anime "Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun" as part of the unit Jibaku Shonen Band. Through his work, Ikuta has demonstrated a recurring collaboration with projects that combine voice acting and music performance, particularly in idol-themed and music-centric multimedia franchises.
