Masahiro Itosugi

Description
Masahiro Itosugi is a Japanese manga artist and original creator, born on December 25, 1975. A graduate of the prestigious Musashino Art University in 2001, he is currently based in Tokyo, Japan. He began his professional career as an adult manga artist before expanding into creating general-audience manga, though much of his work continues to explore mature themes and relationships.

Itosugi is best known as the creator of the manga series Aki Sora, which was serialized in Akita Shoten’s Champion Red Ichigo magazine from 2008 to 2011 and compiled into six volumes. The series is an erotic romance drama that focuses on the complicated and taboo relationship between a brother and his older sister. Itosugi’s work on Aki Sora led directly to his involvement in the anime industry as an original creator. The manga was adapted into two original video animation (OVA) productions. The first, titled simply Aki Sora, was released on December 18, 2009. This was followed by a two-episode sequel OVA, Aki Sora: Yume no Naka, which was released on July 30, 2010, and November 17, 2010. For both anime adaptations, Itosugi is officially credited as the original creator or original work author.

Beyond Aki Sora, Itosugi has created a substantial body of manga work. His other notable series include Uwakoi, a romance story about a complicated love triangle, which began serialization in 2011. He also authored Iinari, Cross XH, All I Need, and Kimikiss ~Sweet Lips~, an adaptation of the popular romance game. Earlier in his career, he produced several adult manga compilations, including works such as A Wish of My Sister, So That Play, and Esper Mayu.

A consistent and defining element of Itosugi’s artistic identity is his focus on what is often described as onee (older sister) comics. His stories frequently center on relationships between older sisters and younger brothers, often incorporating themes of cross-dressing and yuri, or female-female romance. He is known for his nuanced portrayals of these relationships, which often challenge social norms and conventions. Despite being male, Itosugi has been known to adopt a feminine speaking style and has playfully referred to himself as a "heavy fujoshi," a term for female fans of male-mance romance fiction, in the afterwords of his books.

Masahiro Itosugi holds a significant place in the manga and anime industry as a creator who works across the boundary between adult and mainstream publications. His work on Aki Sora garnered enough attention to be adapted into multiple anime productions, establishing him as a notable voice in the romance and drama genres, particularly those aimed at a seinen or adult male demographic. His continued publication of new series demonstrates his lasting influence and dedicated readership within his specific genre niche.
