Karin Giegerich

Karin Giegerich is an Italian-German actress and voice artist, born on May 15, 1963, in Sorengo, Switzerland. She grew up bilingual, speaking both Italian and German fluently, the daughter of a German nuclear physicist. Giegerich pursued her education at the European School in Varese before studying acting at the Accademia dei Filodrammatici in Milan, from which she graduated in 1985. She also studied psychology at the University of Regensburg. Her training included workshops with renowned theatre directors Jerzy Grotowski and Peter Brook at the Fondazione Pontedera Teatro. In 1988, she founded her own theatre company, Ideatrucco, and has collaborated extensively in Italian theatre, including work with director Giorgio Strehler at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan.
Beginning in the mid-1990s, Giegerich expanded her career to German-speaking countries, becoming a familiar face in numerous German and Austrian television series. Her on-screen credits include roles in popular crime dramas such as Squadra Speciale Vienna, where she played the forensic pathologist Angelika Meindl, as well as appearances in Un caso per due, Siska, Wolff, un poliziotto a Berlino, and Squadra speciale Lipsia. She has also acted in Italian films and television productions, including Sangue caldo and Prova di memoria.
Alongside her on-screen work, Giegerich has built a significant career as a voice actress, particularly for animated series dubbed in Milan. She is well-known for providing the Italian voice of the Narrator in the educational anime series Seimei no Kagaku Micro Patrol, known in Italian as Siamo fatti così (also broadcast as C'era una volta... la vita). Her voice work also includes the role of Yuki Mori in the Italian dubbing of the anime film Final Yamato (Uchuu Senkan Yamato: Kanketsu-hen). Additionally, she voiced the character Matilde Nohara in the Italian version of the anime series Nozomi in the Sun (Taiyō no Kiba Dōguran Fenikkusu). Her fluency in both Italian and German has been a cornerstone of her versatility, allowing her to work across different media and languages throughout her career.
