His career began in 2001, with his early work consisting of guest roles in television anime such as Galaxy Angel and Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu. Throughout the 2000s, he continued to build his portfolio by voicing a wide range of minor characters and supporting roles in numerous series, including Shuffle!, Clannad, and Toradora!.

Ishii's role as the narrator and the voice of Zhuge Liang (Kō Mei) Re-GZ in the 2010 series SD Gundam Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors stands as one of his more prominent performances.
