Joan Sanz
Description
Joan Sanz is a Spanish actor and voice actor, primarily known for his work in Catalan-language dubs of anime and other television series. He was born Joan Sanz Bartra on July 26, 1959, in Olesa de Montserrat, Catalonia, Spain.
Sanz began his career in the performing arts as a participant in the Passion Play of Olesa de Montserrat. His professional entry into dubbing came around 1990, facilitated by the renowned actor and director Joan Pere. At a time when the Catalan television network TV3 was expanding its production of dubbed content, Sanz successfully completed a voice test and began learning the craft under Pere's guidance. Before dedicating himself fully to acting and dubbing, he had worked as a technical draftsman.
He is most recognized for his long-standing role as the voice of Vegeta in the Catalan dubs of the Dragon Ball franchise. This association began with the initial broadcast of Dragon Ball Z in the early 1990s and has continued for over three decades. He has reprised the role in numerous series and films, including Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Kai, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Beyond Dragon Ball, his notable anime voice roles include Sakonji Urokodaki in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Kazuo Nakano in Kinnikuman (known as Musculator in Spain), and Diego del Moral in the film The Princess and the Pilot.
A recurring professional collaboration is with fellow voice actor Marc Zanni, who voices Son Goku in the Catalan Dragon Ball dubs. The two have worked together extensively on the franchise and co-authored a book titled La sèrie de la teva vida in 2012, which shares anecdotes and experiences from their dubbing careers. Sanz has also participated in live-action acting and has worked extensively as a scriptwriter. He has written telefilms for TV3, including Cafè&Clixé, Orígens, and Temps Afegit, and founded his own production company, Bonavista Films.
