Kazuna Uchida

Description
Kazuna Uchida is a Japanese manga artist known primarily for creating works in the boys' love genre. Uchida made a professional debut in 1986, contributing to少女 manga publications before becoming a recognized figure in the BL genre. Uchida was born in Osaka Prefecture, and is the older sister of fellow manga artist Shiuko Kano.

The most notable work by Uchida is the manga series Boku wa Konomama Kaeranai, published in English as I Shall Never Return. The series was originally published in six volumes by Shufu-to-Seikatsu Sha and Ohzora Publishing, running from October 1992 to September 1996. The manga has been licensed for English-language release in North America by Aurora Publishing and Netcomics. The story focuses on a love triangle involving the high school students Ritsurou Yoshinari, his best friend Ken Amafuji, and Ritsurou's girlfriend Moeko Kohashi.

The first volume of I Shall Never Return was adapted into an original video animation of the same name. The OVA was directed by Katsumi Minokuchi, produced by the animation studio J.C. Staff, and released in Japan on June 21, 1994. The OVA was later licensed for North American distribution by Media Blasters, with a release on February 13, 2007.

Beyond this flagship work, Uchida has created a substantial body of published manga. Other titles include the three-volume series The Kiss of Death (Shi no Seppun), the three-volume series 3D-boys, the four-volume series Love Me (shite.), and a collection titled Garnet, which compiles Uchida's illustrations. Many of these works have also been published in English translation by companies such as DMP and Tokyopop.

Uchida's artistic identity is closely tied to the development of boys' love manga from the late 1980s through the 1990s. The series I Shall Never Return is noted by critics for its narrative complexity, particularly for giving significant character development to the female lead, Moeko, which was considered unusual for BL works of its time. In more recent years, Uchida has reportedly focused creative efforts on the development of BL-themed video games.
