Tsuguo Okazaki
Description
Tsuguo Okazaki is a Japanese manga artist born on April 23, 1960, in Tokyo. He began his career in the late 1970s, working as an assistant to the manga creator Aya Hideo from 1977 to 1979. Okazaki made his professional debut in 1980 with the short work 2nd Year A Class Hoshiko-sensei, which was published in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, a publication with which he would become closely associated.
Okazaki is best known for creating the science fiction manga series Justy. The series, which follows the esper police officer Justy Kaizard, was serialized in the monthly edition of Weekly Shonen Sunday from August 1981 to September 1984. The manga was later compiled into five tankobon volumes. The popularity of Justy led to its adaptation into a 44-minute original video animation titled Cosmo Police Justy, produced by Studio Pierrot and released on July 20, 1985. Okazaki was credited with the original story and character designs for this anime adaptation. In 2011, he launched a sequel series, Justy NEO Rambis Chapter, which was published online until 2015.
Throughout the 1980s, Okazaki was a regular contributor to Weekly Shonen Sunday and its supplementary publications. His other notable manga series from this period include the romantic comedy Harumi 120%, the sci-fi adventure Ragnarok Guy, the action series Rising Fighter Takeru, and the comedy Doki Doki Heartbeat. In later years, he continued to work on a variety of projects, including creating the manga adaptation of the anime Macross II in 1992. More recently, he has been the artist for Cyborg 009 BGOOPARTS DELETE, a new series based on the classic Shotaro Ishinomori franchise, which began serialization in 2019.
