Shigeru Muroi is a Japanese actress who was born on October 22, 1958, in Namerikawa, Toyama Prefecture. While she is primarily known for her extensive work in live-action film and television, which began in 1979, she has also contributed her voice to a select number of notable anime and animated projects.

In the realm of anime, Muroi is recognized for her role as the Narrator in the first season of the psychological horror series Hell Girl, which aired in 2005. She reprised this role for the second season, Hell Girl: Two Mirrors, continuing to provide the series' narration. Her other prominent voice role in anime is as Asako Tsukishima, the mother of the protagonist in the acclaimed Studio Ghibli film Whisper of the Heart (1995). Her filmography also includes voice work in the original video animation Roots Search as Catherine.

Beyond anime, Muroi has performed Japanese dubbing for major international animated features. She voiced the character Dory in the Japanese-language versions of both Finding Nemo (2003) and its sequel Finding Dory (2016). This body of voice work represents a distinct facet of her career, which is otherwise defined by a prolific number of live-action roles. Her achievements in acting have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Japan Academy Film Prize for Best Supporting Actress in 1995.
