Sukekiyo Kameyama

Description
Sukekiyo Kameyama was a Japanese actor and voice actor born on November 9, 1954, in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture. A graduate of Nihon University's College of Art, he began his career in the late 1970s and remained active until his death on January 26, 2013, from pneumonia. Throughout his career, he was affiliated with several talent management firms, including Doujinsha Production, Production M-Three, and eventually Kiraboshi. Kameyama was also known for his work as a mentor, serving as the head of a voice and acting school.

Kameyama built a prolific career as a character actor, renowned for his portrayals of comedic, pitiful, or ordinary everyman roles. He became a staple in the anime industry from the 1980s onwards, with a particularly strong connection to the Pierrot Magical Girl series. Among his many television anime roles were Kunchan in Magical Hat, Pierre Bonaparte in Powered Armor Dorvack, and the baseball club manager in Touch. He also voiced Suttopoke in the film Catnapped! The Movie, Daibutsu Narano in Ultra B: Dictator B.B. from the Black Hole, and a Ghost in Gozonji! Gekkō Kamen-kun. His later career included roles such as Hiromi Kaname in Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children and its sequel.

Beyond anime, Kameyama was a prolific voice actor for foreign film and TV series dubs. Following the death of Shun Yashiro in 2003, he became the third official Japanese voice of Winnie the Pooh for the Disney franchise, a role he performed for approximately ten years. His other notable dubbing credits included providing the Japanese voice for the character P.J. in An Extremely Goofy Movie and Gus in Cinderella II: Dreams Come True. He was also active as a live-action actor, appearing in television dramas and commercials, most famously as the husband in a long-running campaign for Ebara barbecue sauce.

Throughout his long career, Kameyama frequently collaborated with a consistent group of industry peers. He worked often with director Tomomichi Mochizuki on various projects related to the Magical Angel Creamy Mami franchise. His film work also saw him share the screen with actors such as Akio Otsuka and Mika Doi on multiple occasions, including in productions like Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence and various Rurouni Kenshin titles. His final agency was Kiraboshi, and his passing in 2013 led to several of his long-held roles, such as Winnie the Pooh and Needleman from Monsters, Inc., being taken over by other voice actors.
