Akemi Hirokawa

Description
Akemi Hirokawa is a former Japanese voice actor and singer primarily active in the early 1970s. Before her voice acting career, she was a singer who made her record debut as a solo artist in the mid-1960s, following her time in the folk duo Taffys. She also worked as a disc jockey for youth-oriented music radio programs. She is the sister of renowned voice actor Taichiro Hirokawa.

Hirokawa is known for two major anime roles, both from series that aired in 1972. She voiced the title character Coco in the anime series Mon Chéri CoCo. Her other significant role was as Pipi in the classic anime adaptation of Osamu Tezuka's Umi no Triton, also known as Triton of the Sea. In this series, Pipi is a cheerful and spunky young mermaid who survives the genocide of Triton's family and becomes his companion and love interest. Hirokawa also performed the character song Pipi no Uta, which was released as the B-side to the Umi no Triton theme song single. She later reprised the role of Pipi for the 1979 theatrical film compilation of the series.

Her career as a voice actor was brief, as she retired from the industry upon getting married. In later years, she has been involved as a musical director for The West Hill Singers.
