José Méndez is a Venezuelan voice actor known for his work in Latin American Spanish dubbing for numerous anime and animated series, with a career that began in the late 1990s. He started his dubbing career at Etcétera Group, a studio in Venezuela, and his professional journey has seen him work in various locations, including Venezuela, Spain, and the United States at different points in his career.

Méndez has an extensive filmography in anime, with some of his earliest roles being in the Medabots franchise. He provided the voice for the character Spike, also known as Spyke, in both the original Medabots series from 1999 to 2000 and its sequel, Medabots Damashii, from 2000 to 2001. He was also active in the Beyblade anime, voicing the character Bryan Kuztenov in the original 2001 series and its sequel, BeyG Revolution, in 2003.

He had a significant presence in the Transformers franchise, particularly within the Unicron Trilogy. In Transformers: Armada (2002-2003), he was the first voice of Blurr. He went on to voice multiple characters in Transformers: Energon (2004), including Downshift, a role for which he is credited, and he also served as an alternate voice for the character Cliffjumper in the same series. His work in the Transformers universe continued with Transformers: Cybertron (2005), where he voiced several characters including Vector Prime, Dirt Boss, and Clocker.

Beyond these notable franchises, Méndez contributed to a wide variety of other anime series. His credits include a range of roles in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood for its Animax broadcast version, where he voiced multiple characters including Mick Murray, Barry the Butcher, and several others across various episodes. He was also part of the cast for The Prince of Tennis, voicing Shūichirō Ōishi and later taking on the role of Shūsuke Fuji, and appeared in Detective Academy Q and Nodame Cantabile.

His voice work extended to numerous animated series and films. He voiced Leonopolis "Leon" in the series Niño Ardilla and appeared in various episodes of Samurai Jack, taking on multiple roles across different seasons. He was a frequent voice in the DC Universe animated films, with credits including Batman in Justice League: The New Frontier, James Gordon in Batman: Year One, and Barry Allen / Flash in Justice League: Doom. His other film credits include Dennis in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and Brandon in Winx Club: The Secret of the Lost Kingdom.
