Shōji Yamamoto was a Japanese voice actor born on March 3, 1940. He began his career in the 1960s and became affiliated with the theatre company Gekidan Wakakusa before joining Aoni Production, where he remained for much of his professional life. Yamamoto's deep and authoritative voice made him a frequent choice for roles involving mature, wise, or villainous characters across several decades of anime history. He passed away on March 29, 2014.

Among his most prominent roles was Tōhachirō Kinoshita in the 1980 mecha anime series Muteki Robo Trider G7, where he voiced the father of the protagonist and president of the company operating the titular robot. He is perhaps best known for his portrayal of the villainous Dr. Hell in the iconic Mazinger Z franchise, including the original 1972 series and its sequels Great Mazinger and UFO Robo Grendizer. Yamamoto also took on the role of Professor Ochanomizu in multiple adaptations of Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy, notably in the 1980s series, bringing warmth and wisdom to the character.

Throughout his career, Yamamoto was a regular presence in productions by Toei Animation, contributing to many super robot and science fiction series of the 1970s and 1980s. He frequently worked alongside fellow Aoni Production voice actors such as Hiroshi Ōtake and Jōji Yanami, forming part of a stable talent pool that defined the sound of anime during its formative years.
