He began his professional journey in dubbing after completing a two-month course at the renowned Herbert Richers studios in Rio de Janeiro under the instruction of dubbing artist Newton da Matta, where he was hired immediately upon finishing the course. Prior to focusing on voice work, José Luiz had already built a career as a stage actor and singer, including performing in shows with Ivon Curi throughout Brazil.

In the realm of animation and series dubbing, José Luiz has been responsible for bringing several notable characters to Brazilian audiences. He is known for voicing Speedy in the anime-inspired series Samurai Pizza Cats and provided the voice for the character Sem in the animated production In The Beginning - The Bible Stories.
