Pascal Renwick

Description
Pascal Renwick was a French actor and artistic director, born on December 7, 1954, in Lille, France, who became one of the most recognized voices in French dubbing. He passed away on July 19, 2006, in Champigny-sur-Marne at the age of 51. His journey into performance began with a passion for the stage, leading him to train at the renowned Cours Simon drama school in Paris from 1976 to 1978, after which he dedicated himself to theatre.

Renwick's career was marked by a prolific output in dubbing, where his distinct deep voice became familiar to French audiences. He was the regular French voice for numerous Hollywood actors, including Laurence Fishburne (most notably as Morpheus in the Matrix trilogy), Ron Perlman, and Fred Ward, and was also the first recurring voice for Arnold Schwarzenegger. This extensive work in dubbing provided the foundation for his contributions to animated features and anime.

Within the realm of anime, Renwick lent his voice to several memorable characters in films that reached French audiences. He is known for his role as the determined American Air Force officer Guile in the French dub of Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. He also voiced Bunmei Muroto, a member of the Capitol Police Corps, in the politically charged and atmospheric film Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade. His other significant anime and animated film roles included Togusa in Ghost in the Shell, Isao Ohta in the Patlabor films, and the villainous Makuta in the Bionicle film trilogy. He also contributed to French-dubbed versions of works like Golgo 13: The Professional.

Beyond Japanese animation, Renwick's voice was widely heard in various other animated projects. He was the voice of the canine colonel César in the third French dub of Lady and the Tramp and its sequel, the cantankerous Cétautomatix in Astérix and the Vikings, and the villainous Scroop in Treasure Planet. He also took over the beloved role of the bear Nounours in the French children's television show Bonne nuit les petits from 1994 to 1997. In the realm of video games, he provided voices for characters such as Pecker and Sig in the Jak and Daxter series and Ares in God of War.

Renwick was known for his dedication to his craft, often spending considerable time to perfect a single line, as he described in an interview regarding his work on The Matrix Reloaded. His extensive body of work in dubbing, spanning film, television, and animation, has made him a lasting and significant figure in the history of French voice-acting.
