Kenji Haga
Description
Kenji Haga was a Japanese entertainer and actor who provided voice work for a small number of animated projects in the 1990s. Born Mikio Toma on July 21, 1961, in Okinawa, Japan, his career in the entertainment industry began in the early 1980s and spanned various roles, including acting in television dramas, films, and stage productions, as well as appearing on variety shows as a tarento. While his on-screen acting work was more extensive, he is known in animation for lending his voice to two prominent characters in the mid-1990s.
Haga's most recognized voice role is that of the martial artist Ken Masters in two animated adaptations of the Street Fighter video game series. He voiced the character in the Fighter II: The Animated Movie, which was directed by Gisaburo Sugii. He reprised the role for the subsequent television series Street Fighter II V, which aired in 1995. In addition to his work on Street Fighter, Haga also provided the Japanese speaking voice for the character of Aladdin in the Japanese dub of the Disney animated film Aladdin in 1993 and its direct-to-video sequel, The Return of Jafar, in 1995.
Haga's career in entertainment concluded in 2007 following his arrest on charges of blackmail and fraud, which effectively ended his public life in the industry. His contributions to anime and voice acting are primarily defined by his work on these two major animated projects in the 1990s.
