Masato Kubota is a Japanese voice actor and television personality, born on August 8, 1961, in Tokyo. He began his career in the entertainment industry after joining the theater group Project Revue, which was founded by fellow voice actors Mitsuya Yuji and Tanaka Mayumi, during his university years. His early professional work included minor roles in V-Cinema, but he soon transitioned into voice acting.

Kubota's voice acting career is closely associated with the original video animation series of the 1980s. His most prominent early role was as the protagonist Shogo Yahagi in the influential 1985 science fiction OVA Megazone 23. He later returned to that series to voice the character Clark in Megazone 23 Part III. During this period, he built a portfolio of roles in various anime, including the role of Layou in the television series Kung Fu Boy Chinmi. He also had numerous supporting parts in popular series of the era, such as providing voices for multiple characters in Touch, Maison Ikkoku, and the Patlabor franchise. His film appearances included roles in the Touch movie trilogy and Patlabor 2: The Movie.

A significant turning point in Kubota's career came when his Project Revue colleague, Tanaka Mayumi, who was already appearing in NHK children's programming, encouraged him to audition for a new show. He successfully auditioned for the program that would become the long-running NHK educational series Tsukutte Asobo, where he was cast as the craft instructor character "Wakuwaku-san". He performed this role from 1990 until the show's conclusion in 2013, becoming a beloved figure to a generation of Japanese children. This on-screen role as a talent became his primary public persona for over two decades, though he continued to take voice acting roles in projects such as OVAs and video games during this time. His later voice work includes the role of the Mysterious Man in the Megazone 23: Aoi Garland video game.

Throughout his career, Kubota has maintained connections to his voice acting roots. He has occasionally returned to anime-related projects and has shared stories of his early days in the industry on programs like the variety show Seiyuu to Yoru Asobi.
