Barry Haigh

Description
Barry Haigh was an English-language voice actor known for his work in dubbing anime and Hong Kong martial arts films, primarily during the 1970s and 1980s. He is particularly recognized in anime for his roles in two prominent productions of the era. He voiced the character Zell in the 1985 fantasy OVA Leda: The Fantastic Adventure of Yohko. He also provided the voice for the skilled pilot Roy Focker in the English dub of the 1984 feature film The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?.

Beyond anime, Haigh's career was deeply rooted in the world of English dubbing for foreign-language films, especially in Hong Kong. He was a central figure in this industry, founding his own dubbing group, Voicetrax. Prior to establishing Voicetrax, he had been a voice actor for Axis International, another significant dubbing company, where he worked alongside frequent collaborators Geoffrey Weeks and Hal Archer. His work encompassed a wide range of live-action films, including dubbing the voice of the lead character, Yu Tien-Lung, played by Jimmy Wang Yu, in the 1972 martial arts film One-Armed Boxer. He also lent his voice to kaiju films such as Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975).

Haigh's career was marked by recurring professional relationships. He frequently collaborated with voice actors like Matthew Oram and Michael Ross, who were also key figures in the Hong Kong dubbing circuit. This collaborative network is evident in the casts of the projects he worked on, including both his martial arts and anime dubs. His establishment of Voicetrax represents a significant achievement, marking him as a key player in the industry responsible for bringing many Asian films to English-speaking audiences.
