Werner Senftleben
Description
Werner Senftleben was a German actor and voice actor, born on February 16, 1925, in Berlin. He died on October 6, 2007, in Schildow. His career in the performing arts began after he attended the Schauspielschule Schneider-Wienecke in Berlin from 1948 to 1950. Following his training, he started his stage career in 1950 at a theater in Bernburg-Staßfurt. In 1965, he returned to Berlin, where he performed at the Hans-Otto-Theater in Potsdam before becoming a longstanding ensemble member of the Volksbühne Berlin, a position he held for nearly thirty years.
In addition to his extensive stage work, Senftleben had a prolific career in film and television, appearing in over 140 productions over five decades. His on-screen roles often included portraying characters such as policemen, doctors, or neighbors. He was a familiar face in popular East German television series, including a long-running role as public prosecutor Sieber in the crime series Blaulicht and later appearances in Polizeiruf 110 and Der Staatsanwalt.
Beyond his on-camera work, Senftleben was very active as a voice actor in dubbing, lending his voice to numerous international films and series for the German market. His dubbing work was extensive, with credits including films like The Man from the Rainforest, where he voiced James Stewart, and the television series The Hospital on the Edge of Town, where he voiced Miloš Kopecký. The Deutsche Synchronkartei lists him with 88 voice roles. His voice can also be heard in several anime series dubbed for the German audience. In the anime series The Legend of Snow White, he provided voices for multiple characters, including Gormy, an old butler, and a royal advisor. In the series Little Women II Jo's Boys, he voiced the characters Ed and Silas, the latter being an example of his anime voice work. Senftleben also contributed his voice to many radio plays, known as Hörspiele, for the Rundfunk der DDR.
