Renate Danz

Description
Renate Danz was a German actress and voice actress, born on May 12, 1934, in Berlin. She began her artistic training early, attending ballet school while still a school student and later taking acting lessons from Herma Clement between 1952 and 1954. Her stage debut came in 1951 at the Hebbel Theater in Berlin, and she subsequently appeared in numerous Berlin-based stage productions.

Although Danz appeared in some film and television roles throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, her on-screen work remained relatively infrequent. Her acting credits include roles in the film The Great Chance and the television production A Summer, an Autumn, as well as guest appearances in series like the crime drama Direktion City.

Danz's primary and most prolific career was in dubbing, known as synchronization in Germany. She began this work in 1953 and became a highly respected voice artist. From 1956 onward, she was the official German dubbing voice for actress Shirley MacLaine. Over the decades, she lent her distinctive voice to many other international stars in German versions of films and television series. Among the actresses she dubbed were Brigitte Bardot, Kim Hunter in the Planet of the Apes films, Lee Remick in The Omen, Stephanie Beacham in the series Dynasty and The Colbys, and Jean Marsh in Upstairs, Downstairs.

In addition to her work dubbing live-action films, Renate Danz was also active as a voice artist in animated productions. One of her noted roles in this field was providing the German voice for the parrot Pauly in the anime series Kimba the White Lion. She is also well-recognized for voicing the character Puschel, the titular squirrel, in the German version of the 1979 anime series Bannertail: The Story of Gray Squirrel, which was broadcast in Germany under the title Puschel, das Eichhorn. Her extensive voice work also included long-running roles in German radio broadcasts.

Renate Danz passed away in Berlin in 2006 at the age of 71.
