Monika Gabriel was a German actress and voice actor, born on October 15, 1943, and active until her death in 2007. Her career was primarily rooted in German film and television, but she also contributed significantly to the field of dubbing, lending her voice to characters in foreign productions for German-speaking audiences.

Gabriel initially trained as a professional ballet dancer before transitioning to acting in the early 1960s. She gained prominence through her work with DEFA, the state-owned film studio of East Germany, appearing in numerous films and television productions throughout the decade. Following her marriage to and subsequent separation from actor Wolfgang Kieling, she moved to West Germany in the early 1970s, where she continued her on-screen career in popular television series such as Derrick, Sonderdezernat K1, and Auf Achse.

Alongside her on-screen work, Gabriel built a substantial career as a voice actor and dubbing director. Her voice is featured in many German-dubbed versions of international films and series. She provided the German voice for actresses such as Jill Clayburgh, Charlotte Rampling, and Liv Ullmann. In the realm of audio drama, she was known for voicing the character Teela in the German-language adaptations of the Masters of the Universe series produced by the EUROPA label.

In the context of anime, Gabriel is specifically recognized for her voice work in the German dubbed version of the 1980 animated film Phoenix 2772 - Space Firebird. In this production, which was dubbed in Hamburg in 1982, she voiced the pivotal role of the mythical Phoenix.
