Yasuo Hisamatsu

Yasuo Hisamatsu was a Japanese actor and voice actor born on June 6, 1919, in Tokyo, Japan. His real name was Hiroshi Takahashi. He passed away on June 15, 1982, at the age of 63. At the time of his death, he was affiliated with the talent management firm Aoni Production.
Hisamatsu began his acting career on the stage with the New Tsukiji Theatre and continued his work in theatre with the Japan Mobile Theatre and the film production and distribution company Toho Co. Ltd. His live-action film appearances included roles in Akira Kurosawa's The Men Who Tread on the Tiger's Tail, where he played Kajiwara's Messenger, and the film Murahachibu.
He transitioned successfully into voice acting, becoming a prolific voice actor in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Among his notable anime film roles were Lord Eat in the 1980 Osamu Tezuka film Phoenix 2772: Space Firebird. That same year, he voiced Quincy Harker in the Toei Animation feature Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned, an adaptation of the Marvel Comics series The Tomb of Dracula. In some versions of this film, the character was renamed Hans Harker. He also provided the voice of Niccolò Polo, the father of the titular character, in the 1979 television series Animation Kikō Marco Polo no Bōken.
His other significant voice roles in anime films included Computer Terra in Toward the Terra, Antares in Galaxy Express 999: The Movie, and Bishop Myriel in The Tale of Jean Valjean, all released in 1979 and 1980. On television, he voiced the character Goichiro Katori in the series Arrow Emblem Grand Prix no Taka and Merlin in the series King Arthur.
In addition to his work in anime, Hisamatsu was well-known as the regular Japanese dubbing voice for numerous Hollywood actors, including Burt Lancaster, Leonard Nimoy, Laurence Olivier, and James Mason. He is particularly noted for being the Japanese voice of Mr. Spock from the Star Trek television series.
Beyond his on-screen and voice work, Yasuo Hisamatsu contributed significantly to the welfare of his profession. He served as a senior managing director of the Japan Performers Association, was a Commissioner for Cultural Affairs, and held the position of Vice President of the Cooperative Japan Actors Union. He was also the founder of the Aoni Production voice actor school in Tokyo.
