Throughout her career, she has been primarily associated with Kodansha’s publishing house, contributing to various magazines aimed at different demographics, including josei (women’s) and seinen (young men’s) audiences.

Nunoura is best known for creating the original manga Kiko-chan Smile, which served as the foundation for the anime adaptation. The manga was serialized in Kodansha’s Be Love Parfait magazine, with its initial run spanning from October 5, 1993, to February 9, 2001, and was subsequently compiled into five volumes. The story revolves around a peculiar and highly capable kindergarten student, showcasing a blend of comedy and adventure. The anime television series, produced by the studios Magic Bus and Eiken, aired 51 episodes on the Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) network from October 1996 to September 1997, bringing Nunoura’s original characters and comedic scenarios to a wider audience.

Beyond Kiko-chan Smile, Nunoura has established a significant body of work characterized by a focus on the interactions between humans and animals. A recurring theme in her artistic identity is the depiction of daily life with a lighthearted, humorous, and often touching tone, particularly through the eyes of animal protagonists or young children. Among her other notable original works is Pikupiku Sentarou, a long-running series about a man and his pet rabbit, which exemplifies her skill in portraying animal behavior with warmth and comedy. Another major work is Shibao, which follows the travels of a stray dog; this series marked a stylistic shift for the creator, incorporating a more melancholy and contemplative atmosphere compared to her previous, more purely cheerful works.

Nunoura’s career, which began in the mid-1970s, demonstrates a consistent ability to create charming and character-driven narratives that resonate across different reader demographics. Her work holds a particular significance in the slice-of-life and comedy genres within manga, noted for its distinctive blend of gentle humor, sentimental storytelling, and a deep affinity for depicting the quirks and charms of both children and animals.
