Eric Knight

Description
Eric Knight is the credited original creator behind the 1996 Japanese anime television series Meiken Lassie. The series, produced by Nippon Animation as part of its World Masterpiece Theater lineup, is an adaptation of Knight’s 1940 novel Lassie Come-Home. Born in 1897, Knight was an English author whose literary work, rather than direct involvement in animation production, serves as the source material for this anime adaptation. Meiken Lassie, directed by Sunao Katabuchi, adapts Knight’s story of a loyal Rough Collie who makes a long journey to reunite with her young owner in Yorkshire, England. The series, which aired for 26 episodes, remains Knight’s most significant credited contribution to the anime medium, as his role is consistently listed as the original author of the foundational novel. Beyond the 1996 series, the character Lassie, created by Knight, has been adapted into numerous other media, including live-action films and television series, but his credited involvement in subsequent anime or manga projects is not documented in available records.
