He came from a family with deep roots in the arts, as the son of decorator Léon Barsacq and the nephew of director André Barsacq. While he had a prolific career as a character actor in French cinema, appearing in numerous films and television series, he was also widely recognized for his extensive voice work in animation.
Barsacq lent his voice to many beloved characters in animated productions. One of his most prominent roles was as the grandfather of the title character in the animated series Cédric. In addition to animation, he was the French voice for live-action characters such as Commissioner James Gordon in the first three Batman films of the 1980s and 1990s.
Throughout his career, Barsacq engaged in recurring collaborations, particularly with director Michel Ocelot.
