Akiko Takamura was a Japanese voice actress known for her work in anime during the 20th and early 21st centuries. Born on November 9, 1922, in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, she had a career that spanned several decades until her passing on June 27, 2012. Takamura is perhaps best recognized for her long-standing association with the Moomin franchise. She provided the voice for the beloved character Moominmama in two different anime adaptations. She later reprised the role for the 1972 sequel series, New Moomin, voicing the character for all 52 episodes. This made her a defining voice for the character during the early years of Moomin anime in Japan.
In addition to her iconic role as Moominmama, Takamura often played maternal or elderly characters. She voiced the character Obaa-chan, or Granny, in a Doraemon project, specifically in the story Doraemon: Obāchan no Omoide, which focuses on Nobita's grandmother. She also took on the role of Granny in the 1992 film Green Legend Ran. Another notable film role was as Mother Mouse in the 1982 animated classic Gauche the Cellist. Her other voice acting credits include the role of Ayano Kouji's Grandmother in the 1995 original video animation 3x3 Eyes: Legend of the Divine Demon and a role as a mother in the 1988 series Shin Pro Golfer Saru.
