Takako Ohta

Description
Takako Ohta, born on August 13, 1967, in Tokyo, is a Japanese voice actress and singer whose career is uniquely defined by her debut role. She began her path in entertainment after being scouted following an appearance on the Nippon Television show Star Tanjou! in 1982. Her professional debut in 1983 was highly unconventional and marked a significant moment in anime history. She was cast as the voice of the protagonist Yū Morisawa and her magical pop idol alter ego, Creamy Mami, in the series Magical Angel Creamy Mami. This role was part of a pioneering "media mix" strategy by the production company, where the anime itself was created to launch Ohta as a real-world idol singer. Her debut single, Delicate ni Suki Shite, served as the anime's opening theme, and her subsequent singles were also featured within the show's episodes, creating a unique synergy between the fictional character and the performer.

Despite having no formal training as a voice actress at the time, Ohta's performance as Yū Morisawa and Creamy Mami was met with great success and cemented her place in anime history. She would go on to reprise this iconic role in numerous sequels and spin-offs produced over the following years. These include several original video animations (OVAs) such as Magical Angel Creamy Mami: Long Good-Bye, Magical Angel Creamy Mami: Eien no Once More, Magical Angel Creamy Mami: Curtain Call, Majokko Club Yoningumi - A Kuukan Kara no Alien X, and Adesugata Mahou no Sannin Musume. Her filmography also includes a small role as a Pejite girl in Hayao Miyazaki's acclaimed film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind in 1984. Other anime credits include the role of Pio in the 1986 film Arion and the character Rikimaru in the 1988 feature Kosuke-sama, Rikimaru-sama: Konpeitō no Ryū.

Parallel to her voice acting work, Takako Ohta has maintained a prolific career as a singer, with her identity as a pop artist being deeply intertwined with her most famous anime role. She released numerous albums and singles throughout the 1980s on labels like Tokuma Japan Communications and NEC Avenue, exploring musical styles that ranged from J-pop to rock. After a period of retirement starting in 1994, she resumed her musical activities in 1998 and has continued to release new material and compilations, including a studio album titled Voice of Angel in 2021. She is affiliated with the talent agency 81 Produce.
