Maurício Barroso was a Brazilian actor and voice actor with a extensive career in theater, film, television, and dubbing, recognized for his contributions to the Brazilian entertainment industry throughout the 20th century. Born in Rio de Janeiro on September 26, 1925, he began his artistic journey in the theater, becoming a founding member of the influential Teatro Brasileiro de Comédia (TBC) in São Paulo, where he performed in numerous landmark productions between 1949 and 1953. He was also a member of the poetic recital group Os Jograis de São Paulo, with whom he toured Brazil and internationally.

His career in dubbing began around 1959 at the renowned Herbert Richers studios, and he subsequently worked at several other major dubbing studios in Brazil, including Tecnisom, Peri Filmes, and Televox. Over the decades, he became a prominent voice in Brazilian Portuguese for many classic Hollywood films. He was the regular dubbing voice for actors such as Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, and David Niven, and also lent his voice to actors like Alec Guinness, Michael Caine, and Rex Harrison in their iconic roles.

In the realm of animation and television series, his voice work included characters in productions dubbed for the Brazilian market. He voiced characters in series such as Super Amigos, including the role of Superman in 1981, and Imperador Ming in Flash Gordon from 1979. One of his notable roles in anime was providing the first Portuguese voice for the character Dr. Steel in the series Ogon Bat, known in Latin America and Brazil as Fantasmagórico. He also contributed to the dubbing of other television series, including A Mulher Biônica and O Homem de 6 Milhões de Dólares.

Barroso's work in dubbing was part of a broader career that also included roles in Brazilian cinema, such as O Preço da Vitória and Pobre Príncipe Encantado, and television telenovelas like O Astro and Brilhante. He continued his voice work across various studios until his retirement. Maurício Barroso passed away on January 17, 2002, in Porto Alegre, at the age of 76.
