Jose Moratalla
Description
José Moratalla was a Spanish actor and voice actor, born on December 23, 1941, in Sisante, Cuenca, Castilla La Mancha, Spain. He began his career as a child actor before transitioning to voice acting in 1960, becoming a prominent figure in Spanish dubbing. He was also known by the names Pepito Moratalla and Pepe Moratalla. Moratalla passed away on December 28, 1989.
Moratalla is primarily remembered for his extensive work voicing characters in Spanish-dubbed versions of international animated series, particularly those produced in Japan and Europe during the 1980s. One of his most recognized roles was providing the Spanish voice for Tico, the loyal and enthusiastic hamster companion in the 1983 anime series Around the World with Willy Fog. He also voiced the character Pom in the popular series Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds. His other notable credits in animation include the role of Chuck Olsen, known as Saburou Koyama in the original Japanese version, in the series Kyōryū Tankentai Born Free, and the character Francisco in the Spanish dub of Barbapapa.
In addition to these signature roles, Moratalla's voice work spanned numerous other projects. He provided the Spanish voice for Red Ear in the movie Doggie March, Kongo in Koguma no Misha, and characters such as Manuel and Mario in Marco. His filmography also includes the voice of the Cat Boss and Jefe de los ratones in a Spanish dub of Puss 'n Boots, and he contributed to the Spanish version of Vicke the Little Viking. Beyond animation, Moratalla appeared in and lent his voice to various live-action films, including Mi general (1987) and El armario del tiempo (1971). His contributions to the Spanish-dubbed versions of these beloved series have made his voice a familiar and cherished part of childhood for many Spanish-speaking audiences. It is important to distinguish José Moratalla (1941-1989) from another Spanish voice actor, José Antonio Moratalla Ruiz, also known as Cholo Moratalla, who was active in later decades and directed dubs for series such as Yu-Gi-Oh! and Beyblade.
