Tadashi Akiyama

Tadashi Akiyama is a Japanese creator best known as the original author and illustrator of numerous children's picture books, several of which have been adapted into anime series and films. Born in Tokyo on July 23, 1964, he graduated from the design section of Tokyo University of the Arts in 1988 before beginning his career in children's literature. He gained early recognition in the picture book field, winning the Kodansha Picture Book New Talent Award in 1992 for Fushigi na carnival and the National Picture Book Award in 1995 for Hayaku nete yo. His work is characterized by the creation of memorable and iconic characters, a skill that has led to several of his properties being adapted for the screen.
Akiyama is the original creator of Mameushi-kun, a series about a calf no bigger than a speck of dust. This property was adapted into a 52-episode anime television series that aired from October 2007 to September 2008. He is also credited as the original creator and original character designer for the anime film Eiga Hana Kappa Hana-sake! Pakkaan Chō no Kuni no Daibōken, a feature film released in Japan on April 12, 2013, based on the Hana Kappa series. This film, directed by Kazumi Nonaka, was a co-production between the animation studios OLM and Xebec. The Hana Kappa franchise also includes a television series where the titular character was voiced by Rie Nakagawa.
