Alan Barzman

Description
Alan Barzman was an American voice actor and advertising creative director, born in Portland, Oregon on December 1, 1931. His path to voice acting was built on a foundation in broadcasting and comedy. He graduated from the University of Oregon's Journalism School and earned a Master's Degree in Communications from Boston University. Before his work in animation, Barzman built a career writing humorous radio advertisements, a field in which he garnered significant recognition.

Barzman's voice acting career, while not extensive, included notable roles in animated specials and children's programming. In 1977, he provided the voice for the title character, The Mouse, in the animated film The Mouse and His Child. His other work in animation during this period included roles as a narrator in the 1971 television special The Point, as Rock Number 1 in Puff the Magic Dragon in the Land of the Living Lies (1979), and as a Dog Catcher in Carlton Your Doorman (1980). His most prominent and enduring television role came much later, as the voice of Herb, a penguin puppet, on the long-running children's science program Beakman's World, which began in 1992.

While his on-screen voice roles were sporadic, Barzman's voice became widely recognized through his prolific career in advertising. He was the original voice behind the Energizer Bunny, speaking the iconic line, "He keeps going, and going, and going". His work in radio and television commercials led to numerous industry accolades. He received the Orson Welles Lifetime Achievement award for Creative Excellence and won several Clio Awards, Belding Awards, and Andy Awards. His contributions to the field were also recognized by his inclusion in Who's Who in Advertising. Beyond his performance work, he co-founded the award-winning advertising company Barzman & Company and later authored a book on the industry titled Hearing Voices: Creating, Voicing & Producing Great Radio Commercials in 2002. Alan Barzman passed away in his hometown of Portland, Oregon on October 21, 2020.
