Nino Scardina
Description
Nino Scardina is an Italian actor and voice actor, born in Palermo, Sicily, on April 26, 1936. He began his career on the stage in his hometown in 1953 at the age of sixteen before moving to Rome in 1955 to pursue acting. His entry into the world of dubbing came in 1965, guided by Silvio Noto.
Over his career, Scardina provided the Italian voice for a range of renowned actors in live-action films, including Danny DeVito, Gene Wilder, and Jacques Tati. However, he became particularly well-known for his extensive work in dubbing animated series and films.
In the realm of anime, Scardina voiced numerous characters. Among his earliest forays into animation dubbing in the 1970s were iconic characters like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. The following decade, he took on many other roles, such as Biscus in Lalabel, Jeff Turner in Holly & Benji, and Mister X in L'Uomo Tigre. He is also recognized for his role as Tsuyoshi Seidou, one of the five pilots of the titular mecha in the series Beast King GoLion. One of his most famous and enduring roles was voicing Happosai in the Italian dubs of the Ranma ½ series and its subsequent films.
Scardina eventually stepped back from regular voice acting work, though he made brief returns to the field for a couple of film projects under the direction of Fabrizio Mazzotta. In his later career, he focused on theater and teaching at his own school, called Clan dei 100.
