Francesca Palopoli

Description
Francesca Palopoli was an Italian actress and voice actor, born in Rome on July 19, 1927. She began her career in the 1950s as a theater actress, often taking on roles that suited her slender build, such as teachers or maids. After joining the company of renowned actor Peppino De Filippo, she transitioned almost exclusively to dubbing in the mid-1960s, which became her primary profession. Possessing a voice that from a young age was not well-suited to characters her own age, she specialized in lending her voice to elderly women. Palopoli passed away on October 20, 2011.

Palopoli was highly active in the dubbing of animated series, providing voices for a vast array of characters in Italian-language versions. Among her most notable anime roles were Persefone in Pollon, and she took over the role of Obaba in the Dynit dubbing of Ranma ½ episodes 51 to 126, following the death of Isa Di Marzio. Her extensive filmography includes numerous supporting and secondary characters. For instance, she voiced Rachel Lynd and Aunt Giuseppina Barry in Anne of Green Gables, as well as various characters in the Lupin III series. The Anime News Network encyclopedia credits her with roles in many other series, such as the Nonna di Franti in Ai no Gakko Cuore Monogatari, Tecla in Maya the Bee, Yatsude in Urusei Yatsura, and Moe Suzuyoshi in St. Luminous Mission High School. She also provided voices for Cinciallegra and Passerotta in The Wonderful Adventures of Nils.

Beyond her work in anime, Francesca Palopoli had an extensive career dubbing live-action films and television series. She was the Italian voice for acclaimed actresses such as Angela Lansbury, Jessica Tandy, and Lillian Gish. In television, she dubbed Margaret Hamilton in the live-action series The Addams Family and later voiced the same character in the subsequent animated series. Her work also encompassed a long list of telenovelas, where she dubbed numerous actresses in popular series like Cristal, Manuela, and Rosa selvaggia.

Throughout her career, Palopoli became known for her distinct vocal quality, which made her a natural fit for grandmotherly and elderly female characters. Her contributions to Italian dubbing were extensive, leaving a lasting presence in the voice of many beloved characters from both animation and live-action productions that were broadcast in Italy.
