Sho Ryuzanji
Description
Sho Ryuzanji is a Japanese artistic director, stage director, actor, and voice actor, born on November 2, 1947, in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. He is the representative of the Ryuzanji★事务所 theatre company and has served as vice-chair of the Japan Stage Directors Association. His career began in the late 1960s, with experience in theatre companies such as Jokyo Gekijo and the Waseda Shogekijo, before founding his own group, Engekidan, in 1970. Over his extensive career, he has directed over 250 stage productions in Japan and internationally, a body of work that includes pieces like Bluebeard's Castle, Educating Mad Persons, and High Life. In recognition of his theatrical work, he has received awards such as the 44th Kinokuniya Drama Award and the Grand Prize at the Victoria International Arts Festival.
Within anime and voice acting, Ryuzanji is known for a select number of prominent roles. He provided the voice for the character Magmatron in the 1999 television series Chō Seimeitai Transformers: Beast Wars Neo. In this series, Magmatron is the leader of the Predacon faction and a rival to Big Convoy. Another of his recognized roles is the blind swordsman Usui Uonuma in the anime Rurouni Kenshin. He also voiced the character Tadashi Hoshika in both the Space Brothers television series and its 2014 compilation film, Space Brothers #0. Beyond animation, his on-screen acting credits include roles in films such as Minbo and The Prisoner.
