Vanessa Acosta
Description
Vanessa Acosta is a Mexican actress and voice actress, recognized for her extensive work in television and dubbing. She was born Vanessa Acosta Rodríguez on July 18, 1979, in Mexico City. Coming from a family with a background in entertainment, she is the daughter of film director José Acosta and dubbing actress Dulce María Romay. Acosta began her career in voice dubbing at the age of seven.
In the realm of anime and animation, Acosta is perhaps best known as the first Spanish voice for the protagonist Doremi Harukaze in the magical girl series Ojamajo Doremi, known in Spanish as Magical Doremi. She provided the voice for Doremi during the initial run of the series. Due to her simultaneous commitment to filming the telenovela Un nuevo amor, she was unable to reprise the role for the subsequent season, Ojamajo Doremi Sharp. Her other anime credits include voicing Monna in Dragon Ball Super and Coleene in an episode of Those Who Hunt Elves.
Beyond anime, Acosta's dubbing career is marked by several prominent roles in live-action series and films. She is particularly noted for dubbing characters played by actress Melissa Joan Hart, including the title role in Clarissa lo explica todo (Clarissa Explains It All) and as the first voice of Sabrina Spellman in Sabrina, la bruja adolescente (Sabrina the Teenage Witch). Her other significant dubbing work includes Mindy Crenshaw in Drake & Josh, Lorraine Baker in the Cheaper by the Dozen films, Gretchen Ross in Donnie Darko, and Sharon Carter in Marvel Cinematic Universe productions such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. In the video game world, she provided the voice for the hero Orisa in Overwatch.
In parallel with her voice work, Acosta has maintained a consistent career as a television actress. She studied acting at TV Azteca's Centro de Formación Actoral. Her television debut was in the melodrama Nada personal. She has since appeared in numerous telenovelas and series, including starring roles in El amor no es como lo pintan and Súbete a mi moto, as well as parts in productions like Machos, Caminos de Guanajuato, Falsa identidad, and S.O.S me estoy enamorando. While she remains active in acting, her dubbing work has become more occasional, in part due to her career in television and her work as a real estate agent.
