He began his career in the late 1960s as a child actor, appearing in German television series such as Salto Mortale and Ein Jahr ohne Sonntag. Over the course of his career, he has been predominantly active as a voice actor, contributing to more than 900 productions.

In the realm of animation, Macoulis is known for providing the German voice for a wide array of characters. One of his notable roles is Athos in the anime series Anime Sanjushi, also known as D'Artagnan und die drei Musketiere. His extensive voice work includes characters in numerous other animated series.
