Alfonso Laguna is a prominent Spanish voice actor and dubbing director, recognized for his extensive work in the Spanish dubbing industry, particularly for his long-standing association with the films of Studio Ghibli. Born in Bilbao, he studied law at the University of Deusto before becoming involved in the performing arts through university theatre. He began his professional career in 1977 as a member of the Cuadro de Actores de Radio Madrid, where he performed in over three hundred radio scripts. That same year, he also started working in dubbing, a field in which he has remained active ever since.

As a voice actor, Laguna has contributed to numerous animated and live-action productions. He is particularly well-known for his roles in the Spanish dubs of various Studio Ghibli films. Among his most notable voice roles are Fujimoto, the concerned father in Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea; Hare in Tales from Earthsea; and Diego in the television series Hiatari Ryōkō and its film sequel Hiatari Ryōkō! Yume no Naka ni Kimi ga Ita. He also voiced multiple characters in Whisper of the Heart, including Seiya Tsukishima, the protagonist's father, and Minami. His other anime voice work includes roles such as Calcifer in Howl's Moving Castle, Kurotowa in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, the Narrator in Pom Poko, and Scar's Brother in Fullmetal Alchemist.

Beyond his work in anime, his extensive filmography as a voice actor covers a wide range of international films and television series. He has provided Spanish voices for actors in productions such as Cotton Club, Tras el corazón verde, Ally McBeal, and The Closer. He is noted for being a habitual Spanish voice for actors like John Heard, Chris Elliott, Michael Winslow, and Jimmy Smits.

In addition to his acting, Alfonso Laguna has had a prolific and influential career as a dubbing director and adapter. He has been responsible for directing and adapting the Spanish dialogue for a significant number of Studio Ghibli films. His directing credits for the studio include Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, Tales from Earthsea, Howl's Moving Castle, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Whisper of the Heart, Pom Poko, Only Yesterday, and From Up On Poppy Hill. He also held these roles for the television series Hiatari Ryōkō and Galaxy Express 999.
