Hikari Yono was a Japanese voice actress and narrator born on October 8, 1974, in Shirakura, Fukushima Prefecture. She passed away on November 15, 2020, at the age of 46. She was a graduate of the Nihon University College of Art. Following her education, she trained at the TV narration school School Birds and was subsequently affiliated with the talent agencies Mausu Promotion and B-Box before working as a freelancer.
Yono built a prolific career with numerous roles in anime television series. One of her notable roles was as Kaolinite in the third season of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal, a part that was officially announced in early 2016. She also provided the voice for Samui in the long-running series Naruto: Shippuden and portrayed Yoshino Uehara in Gantz. Other roles in major anime included Shima in Naruto Shippuden, Savina in Ristorante Paradiso, Oeyo in Basilisk, and Bridget Amber in Brighter than the Dawning Blue. Her work extended to animated films as well, with credits including the role of Fukuko Yanagisawa, the mother of the protagonist, in the 2007 film JAPAN, Our Homeland and a part in the 2013 film Hal.
Beyond anime, Yono was active as a narrator for television programs and was involved in dubbing foreign films and TV series through the project Boar Butterfly. Her dubbing work included projects such as the Harry Potter series and Star Trek: Discovery. She also voiced the role of the narrator for the Burn the Witch anime series in 2020.
In early 2020, Yono became ill and took a leave of absence from work. She died on November 15, 2020, while undergoing treatment for cancer. An announcement of her passing was shared with the public by her family via her Twitter account on November 20 of the same year.
